New Moon in Capricorn

Boundaries, Wisdom & Steady Becoming

The New Moon marks the beginning of a new lunar cycle — a moment of darkness, stillness, and possibility. With no visible Moon in the sky, we are invited inward, to the fertile void where intentions are planted before they take form.

This New Moon arrives in Capricorn on the 19th January,  an earth sign associated with maturity, responsibility, integrity, and long-term vision. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, the great teacher, who reminds us that true growth comes not from rushing, but from patience, devotion, and wise boundaries. It is not about force - it is about showing up consistently for what matters most.

This is not a New Moon for grand declarations or sweeping change.
It is a New Moon for quiet resolve.
For choosing what truly matters — and what no longer deserves our energy.

As we have been working with Artemis this month, it is of note that she would be considered a perfect ally for this new Moon in Capricorn. She brings the wild, instinctual truth that keeps Capricorn from becoming too rigid or self-denying, and Capricorn gives Artemis the grounded container that allows her fierce clarity to be lived consistently, not just felt.

Capricorn teaches us how to hold a boundary.

Artemis teaches us how to know when the boundary is crossed.

The Inner Elder / Wise Woman

Capricorn energy carries the archetype of the Elder — the woman who has lived, learned, and earned her wisdom. She understands that boundaries are not walls, but sacred containers that protect what is essential.

Artemis is the Elder of the Wild - the woman who has learned to trust her instincts so deeply that she no longer compromises her truth.

Under this New Moon, we are invited to:

  • Step out of people-pleasing and into self-respect

  • Honour our limitations as much as our desires

  • Ask not “What should I be doing?” but “What is sustainable for me?”

This is a powerful moment to connect with your inner elder or wise woman — the part of you who already knows what is no longer negotiable.

You might imagine her asking gently:

“What do you need in order to remain whole?”

Working with This New Moon

1. Boundary as Devotion

For this lunar cycle, we invited you to reflect on one boundary that needs tending this month.

A Capricorn boundary is not reactive or harsh — it is clear, calm, and rooted in self-trust.

You may wish to explore:

  • Where am I over-giving, over-explaining, or over-extending?

  • What would it look like to protect my energy with maturity rather than guilt?

  • What am I ready to say “no” to — so I can say a fuller “yes” elsewhere?

Write your boundary as a simple, affirming statement, for example:

  • “I do not respond immediately to requests; I give myself time to check in.”

  • “My rest is not something I earn — it is something I honour.”

Feel the boundary in your body. Where do you sense it and what does it feel like when the boundary is blurred or compromised? Be aware of this feeling or sensation so that you can explore why this occurred and reset your boundary.

2. Choosing an Object of Intention

Capricorn works beautifully with the physical, tangible world.

Choose a stone, crystal, or meaningful object — something small enough to hold in your hand or keep nearby. As you hold it, name aloud or silently:

  • Your intention for this lunar cycle

  • The quality you are cultivating (steadiness, self-trust, discernment, patience)

Let this object become a quiet anchor — a reminder of the promise you are making to yourself.

Place it on your altar and focus your attention on your object daily to honour your promise and yourself.

Some objects aligning to Artemis could include:

  • Stones gathered in nature - particularly from your own environment or special place

  • Bone, wood, antler imagery

  • silver-toned objects

  • anything that feels chosen rather than decorative

As you hold the object, voice your intention:

“I claim this intention as my own. I protect what matters.”

3. One Small, Realistic Commitment (until the next new Moon cycle)

Rather than setting multiple goals, Capricorn asks for one commitment you can truly honour.

Not aspirational.
Not perfection-based.
But real.

Ask yourself:

“What is one small act of integrity I can keep for the next 28 days so that I can honour my boundary?”

Examples might include:

  • Going to bed 15 minutes earlier

  • Taking a daily walk without your phone

  • Saying no to one thing that drains you

  • Weekly check-ins with yourself and your needs

This is about trust-building — proving to yourself that you can rely on you.

A Simple New Moon Reflection

You may wish to journal with one or two of these prompts:

  • What does my inner elder want me to understand right now?

  • Where am I being asked to grow up — not in hardness, but in self-respect?

  • What foundation am I laying for the months ahead?

Closing Thought

This New Moon is not asking you to do more.
It is asking you to stand more firmly in who you are.

May this lunar cycle support you in creating boundaries that feel like love, commitments that feel like devotion, and a relationship with yourself that grows stronger with every small, honourable choice.

Artemis, guardian of the wild and the sovereign self,

Teach me where my ‘no’ is holy.

Help me protect what is tender and true.

May my boundaries be clear, my commitments steady,

And my path my own.

Artemis walks beside us this month - not pushing, not chasing - simply reminding us that the strongest foundation is built on self-loyalty.
